OC Habitats has many opportunities for you to get involved!

HABITAT MONITOR

Want to learn more about the habitats around you?  This program is for you.  Currently our big focus is the coastal dunes (beaches) but we will expand to other habitats as we grow.  We welcome those who love to be outside, to walk/hike, and are interested in habitat conservation and species protection. Science backgrounds are great but not required.

HABITAT EDUCATOR, NATURALIST,
AND DOCENT

Education is the backbone of our mission at OCH.  We want to educate, enlighten, and inspire by sharing our knowledge and passion on to others to ensure that the natural places of OC (and everywhere) are preserved and restored for the future of all species human and nonhuman.  We work with all ages in this program and welcome those that have experience but more importantly a passion for the environment.

RESTORATION VOLUNTEER

OCH has regular and ongoing restoration projects around Orange County in partnership with OC Parks, Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy, and Project Grow.  We are always looking for individuals who are passionate for restoration work and any experience or background knowledge in restoration ecology is a plus but not required.

INTERNSHIPS

OCH offers internships undergraduate and graduate college students who are looking to gain experience in the environmental and nonprofit field. We are looking for individuals in all disciplines but all must have a passion for the environment and conservation. To see a more detailed listing of our internship offering click here.

MPA & TIDEPOOL DOCENT

Love to hike and be outdoors?  So do we at OCH!  We offer/host outdoor adventures to the community and welcome experienced hikers and naturalists to join our team who would like to lead hikes throughout Orange County.

ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEER

OCH is a small grassroots nonprofit that has ongoing administrative duties as any small business. As a 501(3)c nonprofit some of our work is to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.  We rely on the commitment, expertise, and time of our volunteers who have a passion for organization, accounting, social media, fundraising and marketing skills.

BOARD CANDIDATES

OC Habitats has room on its board to grow. If you love the outdoors, species conservation,  policy work, trails, preserving land, or just want to volunteer to serve a great cause, please apply below if you are interested.  Past nonprofit or conservation work is desired.  Application includes a current resume, cover letter, references, and interviews with members of current board. We have quarterly meetings in January, April, July, and October. We are dark for one week in spring, two weeks in summer, one week in fall, and two weeks in December.  We have many leadership opportunities you can participate in like monitoring, educational programming and outreach events, habitat tours and hikes,  fundraising and marketing, and administrative programs.

INTERNSHIPS

OCH offers internships for junior and senior undergraduate and for post-graduate students who are both passionate about the environment and trying to gain more experience in this field.  We offer a 6-month a program. Application deadlines: April 30, August 31, and November 30 for the Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions (internships do overlap depending on the school students attends).
